After thirty years of attempts to control climate change on the basis of appeals to morality, the world’s emissions of greenhouse gas continue to increase. It is time to appeal to self-interest instead of morality. Rather than asking the present generation to make sacrifices for the future, we need to ensure that everyone, including the present generation, will benefit from bringing climate change under control. A new international financial instutution will be required to make this possible.
